Being a teenager can be pretty busy and sometimes stressful, even for those teenagers who don't have diabetes. When you do have a condition like diabetes it can mean that you have to spend a bit more time thinking about your health, how you're feeling, and being prepared. At the same time, you get a chance to work on improving these skills that other teenagers might not be practicing yet, which will help you in many other areas of your life.
If you think you have heard enough about the finer details of diabetes then that's understandable.
The main worries that other teenagers your age with diabetes told us about were:
- How diabetes affects doing the 'more adult' things in life (like partying or getting your learner's permit)
- Having greater responsibility and finding time in their busy schedule to think about diabetes management
- Handling diabetes at school and in exams, and how the teachers react
- Managing their diabetes when they are staying away from home
- How diabetes might affect dating
- Dealing with their parents' worries about their diabetes
