BEING SAFE IN THE BEDROOM
Maybe you're waiting for the right person to come along, or perhaps you are already sexually active. Whatever you do, make sure that it is right for you and it is your decision to get involved with someone. Saying no is OK at any stage of a relationship or date.
We have loads of tips on ways you can look after yourself if you are sexually active, or are thinking about becoming sexually active.
Pregnancy:
Use protection! If you're not ready to start a family, then be prepared and use protection to prevent unwanted pregnancy. Usually the best and safest contraceptive for females with diabetes is the pill (but you need to talk to your doctor first), and the safest for both males and females is to also have condoms at hand. Always remember that contraceptives are not 100% effective against unwanted pregnancy.
Sexually Transmitted Diseases:
Protection isn't just good for preventing unwanted pregnancies; it can also help to protect you from sexually transmitted diseases (STDs). Remember that you can't always know whether your partner has an STD because they are not always visible, so be careful all of the time by using condoms. The contraceptive pill will not protect you against STDs.
