The Meter - Dealing with Hypo Blues

The Research

Many teenagers and young adults across Victoria have helped us to develop this website by telling us about their concerns and their experiences with diabetes. From those conversations we found that lots of young people have mixed feelings about their diabetes. We also found that young people from country areas feel like they have less resources available for them than those who live in the city. This website aims to help you deal with some of those feelings and concerns and to link you in to some resources in your local area. So if you have Type 1 diabetes and are from a country area, this website is for you!

This website is part of the beyondblue funded project "Type 1 diabetes as a risk factor for depression and other adverse outcomes for young people in rural Victoria" which explored the experiences and concerns of adolescents and young adults living with diabetes in rural and urban Victoria.

The aim of our research was:

  • To better understand the worries of young people with Type 1 Diabetes in rural areas, and how these worries impact on their emotional well being and quality of life.

  • To use these findings to develop the current website, and to make recommendations to funding bodies about the sorts of services that young people with diabetes in rural areas would benefit from.
